web resources

Hey guys, figured that I will start the ball rolling :)

The website that I would suggest is http://puzzlemaker.discoveryeducation.com/. This site is useful because it allows you to configure a crossword puzzle, word search or any kind of word puzzles and it is so easy to use. This is great if you wanted to think of fun activities to test your students' knowledge of specific events that took place in Act One of a play for example.

This website also provides lesson plans for literature and other subjects and because it is an American system, the range of levels is from grade K-5, 6-8 and 8-12. There are many comprehensive lesson plans on texts like Pride and Prejudice, Dracula and The Salem Witch Trials and the lesson plans can be tailor-made to suit a younger or older audience. The only issue that I have with the lesson plans is that the texts offered is largely based on American Literature and the O Level Syllabus is primarily based on British/local texts.

Lastly, the website also gives great suggestions for fieldtrips or activities outside the classroom that could enhance the students' learning in literature. There are case studies of students' who have done a video research project on the Salem Witch Trials and that could help students better understand the social/cultural/historical context of Arthur Miller's The Crucible.

Hope this helps guys.

  2. I love love the puzzlemaker! :) I actually tried using it to teach Macbeth before. it was a fun way to get the kids to remember who did what and who said what. it helped them remember the important quotes too and it helped me to consolidate the lesson better.

So yes, caroline, you can safely say that this lesson idea is very do-able! :D

the only problem is when u print it out from the computer, there are all these urls printed at the borders that i had to "fold away" before i started photocopying. but it's just a very small thing that can be rectified easily!

    thanks for sharing, carol!

    love,

  3. Hey Carol,

The puzzlemaker is a great idea! It caters to students with kinesthetic needs. It also aids in storing the information in their long term memory base!
